New Mosquito Road Bridge to Swansboro (AI generated)

If you live in Mosquito or Swansboro, you know what it means to get across the South Fork of the American River.

You have probably sat at the old one-lane Mosquito Road Bridge waiting for traffic, or

taken the long way around on Rock Creek Road when Mosquito Road was closed.

Starting Saturday, September 26, 2026, that changes.

The new Mosquito Road Bridge opens to public traffic, creating a much easier connection between Placerville, Mosquito, and Swansboro. The new bridge is nearly 1,200 feet long and eliminates the steep, winding trip down into the canyon and across the old one-lane bridge.

For people who already live in Swansboro and Mosquito, it means easier access to town and, importantly, better access for emergency vehicles.

But we think it may do something else, too.

It could introduce a whole new group of people to Swansboro Country.

Easier Access Changes the Equation for Swansboro

Swansboro is still Swansboro.

Big lots. Oaks and pines. Wells. Shops and outbuildings. Quiet roads. Dark skies. Fire weather. And properties where being self-sufficient isn't just an idea — sometimes it is part of living here.

Until now, that old bridge and the drive into Placerville could make people think twice about buying property in Swansboro or Mosquito.

The new Mosquito Road Bridge changes part of that equation.

But a nicer drive into Placerville doesn't run your well pump.

It doesn't keep the refrigerator and freezer going during an outage.

It doesn't power the shop.

And it doesn't open the electric gate at the bottom of the driveway when the grid goes down.

That is the part we care about.

We Know Swansboro and Mosquito Properties

We are Diamond Solar Solutions, a family-owned solar and battery company based right here in Placerville.

We stay focused on solar, batteries, generators, and electrical because that is what we

know and what we love. And we spend a lot of time working with rural properties throughout Swansboro, Mosquito, Placerville, and El Dorado County.

These aren't always cookie-cutter solar installations.

Some properties have a great south-facing roof. Others have a house tucked into the trees but an open area that's perfect for a ground-mounted solar array.

Some have a standard PG&E connection. Others are far enough from utility infrastructure that bringing in grid power can become an expensive project of its own.

And some homeowners simply don't want to depend entirely on the grid.

That's where off-grid solar in Swansboro and Mosquito starts making a lot of sense.

Own the Power Instead of Renting It From the Utility

Running utility power into steep, wooded rural property can be expensive. And having a PG&E connection doesn't necessarily mean you'll have power when you need it most.

Regular grid-tied solar has another limitation: without the right battery backup system, your solar panels generally won't keep your house running when the grid goes down.

We would rather look at the property and design the system around the way you actually live.

Solar that fits your land. If your roof gets enough sun, great. If it doesn't, we can look at a ground-mounted solar system where the sun actually hits. Metal roofs, tile, older composition roofs, shops, barns, open acreage and pockets between the trees — rural El Dorado County gives us plenty of options.

Battery storage sized for the house. Not just a generic "essential loads" package. If you're on a well, the well pump matters. So does refrigeration, lighting, communications, gates and whatever else your household depends on.

A generator for when you really need it. The goal isn't to listen to a generator run all day. It's to have another layer of protection when solar and battery storage need help.

Solar + Franklin Batteries + Generator = Real Energy Independence

Solar is what makes energy independence possible.

Your roof or ground-mounted solar array produces electricity right there on your property. The battery stores that energy so you can use it after the sun goes down or when PG&E power isn't available.

For rural properties around Swansboro and Mosquito, we especially like systems that can integrate solar, battery storage and a backup generator.

FranklinWH battery systems are one option we like for this type of property because they can be designed to work with generator backup.

Think about a multi-day winter storm, extended outage or several days when solar production is limited.

If the battery bank gets low, a properly designed generator integration can provide another source of power and recharge the system. When conditions improve, you're back to relying primarily on solar and stored energy rather than burning fuel continuously.

Short outage? Solar and batteries can handle it.

Long outage? That's when having another layer of backup becomes valuable.

For a remote or semi-remote Swansboro property, that's a very different level of independence from simply putting solar panels on the roof.

The New Mosquito Bridge Could Open Swansboro to More Homebuyers

If you're considering buying property in Swansboro or Mosquito, the new bridge makes these communities considerably easier to reach from Placerville.

But when you're looking at a rural home, ask another simple question:

What happens when the power goes out?

Does the well still work?

Does the refrigerator stay cold?

Can you operate the gate?

Can you heat or cool the house?

And if the property doesn't have utility power yet, don't automatically assume extending PG&E service is the only "normal" choice.

Depending on the property, a properly designed off-grid solar, battery and generator system may be worth comparing with the cost of bringing utility power to the site.

For the right Swansboro property, energy independence can become part of what makes the home attractive rather than something a buyer has to work around.

Selling a Home in Swansboro? Energy Independence Can Matter

The bridge may also bring more prospective buyers into the area.

Someone who previously hesitated because of the old Mosquito Road crossing may take another look at acreage in Swansboro. That makes this a good time for property owners to think about how their home's infrastructure looks to a buyer.

A solar and battery system that can keep the well, refrigeration, lighting and other important loads operating during an outage is something worth showing.

And for an off-grid property, don't hide that fact.

Explain how the system works. Show buyers the solar production, battery storage and generator backup. A thoughtfully designed off-grid system can be part of the property's appeal.

Off-Grid Solar for Swansboro and Mosquito Starts With the Property

We would rather stand on your property than try to design your system from a satellite image.

We'll look at the trees and shade. We'll look at the roof and the open ground. We'll find out what your well requires, what you have in the shop and what you actually want running when the grid is down.

Then we'll tell you what makes sense.

That might be solar with FranklinWH battery backup.

It might be solar, batteries and a generator.

It might be a ground-mounted solar array.

Or it might be a complete off-grid solar system designed specifically for your Swansboro or Mosquito property.

Cash, financing or a prepaid PPA when it makes sense — explained in regular English.

The new Mosquito Road Bridge makes Swansboro and Mosquito easier to reach.

We'd like to help make sure that when you get home, you have power you can depend on.
